Framing a night portrait like a film still
A cinematic portrait is mostly light and distance. Put the subject close to the lens, head and shoulders filling a vertical frame, and let the background fall into dark. One edge light, usually from behind and to one side, outlines the hair and the shoulder. That single line separates a film still from a snapshot.

Why do the hair edges look soft?

Does the camera move?
