Light sets the portrait, not a filter
A neon portrait is built from light, not from makeup. One colored gel on the key side, a second color on the rim, and a dark background that lets both read. The face stays natural while the color wraps around it. In a photo that split is easy to fake with an edit; in video it has to hold through every turn, which is why the prompt names the light before anything else.
Start with a head-and-shoulders crop and a plain reference. Ordinary light in the photo is fine. Choose two colors at most: one for the key light, one for the rim. Ask for a slow turn of a few degrees and a steady camera. Big head swings change the shape of the face, so keep the move small and the light on one side.
Can the light be a different hue than my photo?
Yes. Name the hue, such as “hot pink” or “cyan”, and where it lands. The reference photo sets the face; the prompt sets the color.
Why do some clips look orange or muddy?
Usually there are too many colors. Two colors at most, one key and one rim, keep the skin clean.
Does the portrait need a background?
