Why glitter needs motion to look like glitter

Glitter is made of tiny reflective flakes. In a still photo they look like a faint texture. On video they become sparkle, because each flake flashes only when it catches the light from a certain angle. A slow blink, a turn of the head or a moving light makes that flash travel across the lids and cheekbones. That travel is what the eye reads as shine, so a clip with a little motion beats a still with a lot of glitter.

The face needs the same care as the sparkle. Fast strobes can flicker the skin, and heavy glitter spread across the whole cheek can turn into noise.
