Choosing a dim reference that animates well

A dark photo is not a bad reference. Low light hides clutter, and a face lit by one lamp often has the most natural shape. The model needs a sharp subject: eyes in focus, a readable outfit and no blown-out flash. A slightly grainy photo with a clear face usually moves better than a bright one with soft features.

Choose the light before you upload, then put the same light in the prompt. “Lamp light from the left, dark room behind” tells the model where the shadows fall and stops it from lifting the whole frame.

Will a very dark photo work?

It can, when the face is sharp and lit by a clear source. A frame with no visible face leaves the model guessing.

Does the model brighten the whole scene?

It can, unless the prompt says otherwise. Name the single light and add “no other light in the room”.

Should I brighten the photo first?

That is your choice. The light cue in the prompt usually matters more than the exposure of the reference.

Why does the face look muddy?

Usually the light comes only from above or behind. Add a soft fill from the front and say so in the prompt.

How daring can a dim clip be?

A close look in soft light, a slow turn, a loose satin shirt and eyes on the lens. Never explicit: nudity and sex acts are against the terms and can be refused by the video provider’s checks.
